Oliva Cigars are widely recognized as some of the best in the world. Oliva's Serie V Melanio was Cigar Aficionado's 2014 Cigar of the Year, a ranking which compared it against the greatest cigars from Cuba, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras and elsewhere. Oliva routinely earns scores of 90+ from the best cigar magazines and blogs.
According to Cigar Aficionado, “The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.” Following the Cuban Revolution of 1959, Melanio’s grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. fled to Spain before eventually relocating to Nicaragua where he returned to the cigar business. It wasn’t until 1995 that that the Oliva Cigar brand was launched, which has experienced a great deal of success producing cigars using predominantly Nicaraguan tobaccos."
